Nov 12, 2017 - Primitive old hand forged hay knife from an old farm estate. Hay knives were used before the days of hay bales when the hay was stored loose in the hay mow in the top of the barn or in haystacks. The hay knife would be used to cut through the hay to allow an armful to be easily removed for feeding the cows, horses goats etc. This hay knife measures about 36" long overall and the toothed section of the blade is about 24" long. This still has the remains of one of the original wooden handles. This tool has a patina of age and rust.
Thought I found a gun in our corn field today. It's heavy, pure metal, and might be a kind of key. We think it might be part of some old farm equipment.
I have not attempted to clean, buff or oil it in any way. Marking on the knife - look at the picture. Age on it is hard to say - It could be 100 years
