The Seattle Mariners are acquiring catcher Curt Casali and left-hander Matthew Boyd from the San Francisco Giants for right-handed reliever Michael Stryffler and catcher Andy Thomas, a source told MLB.com's Mark Feinsand.Casali, 33, owns a .231/.325/.370 slash line with four home runs and 14 RBIs in 41 games for the Giants this season.The veteran backstop will provide Seattle with another option behind the plate. The Mariners also have Cal Raleigh and Luis Torrens at the position on the roster. Casali is currently on the injured list dealing with an oblique strain.Casali spent three seasons with the Cincinnati Reds from 2018-20. He has extensive experience catching newly acquired star right-hander Luis Castillo. In 27 starts throwing to Casali, Castillo posted a 2.61 ERA with 202 strikeouts in 169 innings.Boyd has been rehabbing a flexor tendon injury and has yet to throw a pitch in MLB this season after signing a one-year deal in the offseason. The 31-year-old threw a 40-pitch bullpen session over the weekend and should be able to start games later this season, according to NBC Sports' Alex Pavlovic.Stryffeler has made 35 appearances for Seattle's Double-A affiliate in 2022. The 26-year-old has posted a 2.27 ERA with 14 saves in 35 appearances this season.Thomas, 24, has a .844 OPS with nine home runs and 32 RBIs across 64 games in Single-A this season.
