The most important part of a paintbrush is the working end. Brush performance is based on the engineering of the filaments – how they are finished or tipped.
This affects both the feel of the brush as well as the results you get. Tipped bristles are slightly tapered to help release an even, controllable amount of paint.
Every brush maker guards their proprietary tipping methods because they’re a big part of what makes each brand different.

The Silver Tip blend of white and silver CT™ (chemically tipped) polyester filaments virtually eliminates brushmarks.
The individual filaments have thin, flexible ends that provide exceptional leveling and smoothing of the paint surface.

These characteristics make Silver Tip brushes ideal for tipping to remove the paint stippling and bubbles produced by rollers, or lingering strokes left when the paint was initially applied by brush – leaving a smooth, glossy finish that looks great.
Properly done, rolling and tipping* can result in a finished surface that rivals the mirror-like gloss achieved by spraying.

Furthermore, the responsiveness and bend recovery of Silver Tip brushes are perfect for delivering sharp, single-pass cuts when this brush is used for detail work.

The flat (straight) cut of this brush makes it ideal for painting broad, flat surfaces as well as trim.

Silver Tip brushes are formulated for use with all paints, enamels, varnishes, and polyurethanes.

While Silver Tip brushes provide excellent leveling and smoothing with all paints, they are especially well-suited for applying varnishes or polyurethanes on wood, enamels on metal, as well as for applying water-based latex coatings on a variety of substrates.

Remember – paint hides the underlying color, but not the texture. Applying your finish coat over a surface with physical imperfections will not fill in or hide those imperfections.
This makes the tipping of undercoats and primers to remove roller or brush marks just as important as tipping the topcoat.

* A summary description of a tipping technique which yields excellent results:
Work in a small, approximately 2 ft x 2 ft, area at a time. Roll out the paint diagonally or in a large X or W then re-roll horizontally to distribute the paint evenly. Finally, tip vertically from top to bottom using lightweight strokes. The paint will then level out horizontally, leaving no roller marks, no runs, and no brush marks. Be sure to use reducer, as needed, as soon as the tipping brush begins to exhibit any signs of dragging.
