Vitra Alexander Girard Wooden doll No.5
The Wooden Dolls by Alexander Girard are a large family of wooden figures representing human and animal characters. Girard created them in 1953 as decorative objects for his house in Santa Fe. These originals, which are part of the Girard collection belonging to the funds of the Vitra Design Museum, served as a model for current reissues. Replicated with precision to the last detail, the Wooden Dolls are still made and painted by hand, exactly like the old pieces by Alexander Girard.

The decorative Wooden Dolls, designed and made by Girard for his own home in Santa Fe, were likewise inspired by his extensive personal collection of folk art. Part decorative object, part toy, the Wooden Dolls are based on originals from the Girard estate in the holdings of the Vitra Design Museum.
