1878 Counterfeit Coin Detector. Good Condition, retains most of the finish.
Harvey Maranville's April 30, 1878 patent "Dial Coin Tester" to detect counterfeit gold and silver coins via a rotating counterweight. This nickel plated brass coin detector is missing the (easily replaced) stand. The original patent described additional capabilities as a postal scale, although there are no postal markings on any known examples of the very rare Maranville scale.
