To prevent residue build up on your machine, remove and replace tape as often as needed. Do not leave the tape on the machine for long periods of time. ~1 roll of tape, 5/8 wide by 10 yards.~ The black lines on each side of the red seam line replicate a 1/4 seam, so getting a perfect 1/4 seam allowance or lining up fabric is easy.
