On Nov. 9, 2011, the U.S. conducted the first national test of the Emergency Alert System at 1 p.m. central time. The 30 second test was conducted by the Federal Communications Commission, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
