Charcoal is the ideal substrate for culturing springtails. This high-quality horticultural charcoal offered by Josh's Frogs provides plenty of surface area that springtails need to reproduce and thrive.

Josh’s Frogs Horticultural Charcoal is the second layer in the terrarium. It acts as a filter and keeps the terrarium fresh. Only a thin layer is needed to cover the drainage layer. The amount of charcoal needed will be half the amount of the drainage layer.

Josh's Frogs Coco Husk Brick is created from coconut husk, making it an environmentally friendly substrate. Each 6 quart Coco Husk Brick weighs 650g, or 1.43 lbs. The Coco Husk Brick will expand when soaked in dechlorinated water. Soak the coco husk brick for at least 1 hour before use. Each Coco Husk Brick will expand to 4-6 times it's original volume, based on the amount of water used.
