Icarus Originally composed (Ben Harloff-winds and Eli Case-Percussion) for The Pinecrest Academy of Nevada-Cadence, This story follows the legend of Icarus where Icarus's father Daedalus fashions two pairs of wings out of wax and feathers for himself and his son. Daedalus tries his wings first, then he warns his son not to fly too close to the sun, nor too close to the sea, but to follow his path of flight. Overcome by giddiness while flying, Icarus soared into the sky but came too close to the sun, whose heat melted the wax so that Icarus fell into the sea. Then this story differs from the original and Icarus flies once again. The music will be familiar to any audience as it pulls from Fly to Paradise by Eric Whitacre and When the
