This is a foam noise barrier with an internal layer of extra dense vinyl for superior sound absorption.
It provides an effective treatment for airborne noise radiating from engines, and other machinery by absorbing sound, as well as reflecting it back into the engine compartment.
The standard composite consists of a layer of mass-loaded vinyl sandwiched between two layers of polyether fire retardant open-cell foam covered by a thin, mylar silver vapor barrier facing.
The version with the adhesive coating has a blue protective layer on the opposite face.
The construction centers the acoustic vinyl between equal thicknesses of foam, front and back.
For optimal sound attenuation within available spaces, this product is available in a number of thicknesses and bariier densities when ordered in large quantities; please inquire.
This sound barrier should be secured using one of the hanger systems we offer to ensure backup in case of adhesive failure.
Exposed edges of sound barrier should always be protected with mylar tape to seal out fumes and moisture.
Available with or without pressure sensitive adhesive backing
Polyether foam construction is more resistant to moisture degradation than polyester foams
Easy-to-clean film facing protects against spills, mists and vapors
Vinyl barrier density: 1.0 lb/ft²
Foam thickness: 1
Temperature range: -40 to 255°F
Heavy on the technical side
Sound attenuation is a surprisingly complex issue.
While these products will provide a significant decrease in airborne sound, they will not eliminate it, nor will they decrease sound energy traveling via the structure (hull) of your vessel; expect results, not miracles.
