Original artwork Title: "meandering 2" approx. 4x6 inches watercolor, oil pastel, marker on watercolor paper Life isn't linear. Often my journey through life feels comparable to being afloat on a river where I don't have much control of the path but I know my destination lies somewhere ahead. This collection is a reflective process on how, as humans, we are cognizant of time and mortality but don't have control over either. Rather, we meander through time which can project us forward as well as backwards on our life path. I used a larger piece of watercolor paper and sectioned it into fours using tape. Then picked out a color palette to use on all four sections. After laying down large areas of color in watercolors I went back into the work with oil pastels and markers to make marks. When making the lines with the oil pastels I used my non dominant hand in order to allow a looser, more gestural line which went through all four sections of the larger watercolor paper. Another reason I used my non dominant hand is to release the control I would otherwise have with my dominant hand, a nod to the loss of control over time and, often, our lives.
